Chosen by the Hunter: alien MMC compares dark skin to "rich, fertile soil." This is meant with utmost respect (rich, sacred and full of life) and is NOT meant to imply "dirty" whatsoever. MMC would not know words like mahogany/walnut/etc.  It is planting season in the book, and the MMC had just thought about "setting down roots" on Earth. Also, my own culture reveres fertile soil (Soil is the Mother of all creatures on earth). After speaking with numerous POC readers who connected with the description and found it respectful, I have decided to keep the description in the book. As a visible minority myself, representation is very important to me, as are genuine POC voices.
